When? In the morning and in cold weather your fingers are thinner

H our fingers vary in thickness throughout the day and with changing temperatures. Fingers are thinner in the morning than in the evening, and thinner in winter and cold weather than in summer.

The circumference of the finger also changes over the years and during pregnancy: the fingers of your left and right hand usually have different circumferences. And for many, the phalanges are the widest part of their fingers.

Measure before you order and - if possible - several times at different times of the day. This will give you a feel for the average circumference of your finger, which is crucial for the ring to feel comfortable to wear.

Where? On which part of the finger do you measure?

Fingers are different in thickness on the left and right hand. Determine which finger and an welcher Hand der Ring getragen werden soll. Verlobungsringe z. B. werden meist am Ringfinger der linken Hand getragen.

The circumference of the finger should be measured midway between the second and third phalanges. Usually, rings are pushed up to above the second phalanx of the finger (called the middle phalanx or phalanx media). They then sit in the middle between the second and third phalanx, the proximal phalanx.

Exceptions are thumb rings or wearing styles where a large number of rings are worn on one finger.

How? Example with 3 measurements of the finger circumference

To determine the appropriate size of your ring, in this example we took three measurements throughout the day and wrote them down. The first one in the morning, when the finger circumference was 53.3 mm, the second one at noon at medium temperature (54 mm) and the third one in the evening at warmer temperature (54.2 mm). The finger already had a little more circumference at that time.

To determine the average finger circumference, add up all the measurement results and divide this value by the number of measurements.
